Sergeant Knight at Arms
This is a spinoff from Amman de Stazia's poll. I have chosen some helmets from the list of armour requests to see which the community would like to see included in the next version of the game. Some of you will doubtless say the games needs a lot of stuff more important than new armour, and guess what? You're right! But we all love to see new armour too!

Illustrations below of the various types, check them out before you vote (please click on the thumbnail, if the thumbnails aren't working, click on the links) also click on the links, there are other pictures there:

13. Other: fantasy, Ancient Greek or Roman, Renaissance, Japanese and Far-Eastern helmets, please post pictures of the helmets of your choice.
Suggestions so far for this category:
a- Monterfortino helmet. Another picture
b- Late Roman Helmet ("Concesti helmet")
c- Samnite 'Phrygian' style helmet
d- Early great helm
e- Maximus' helmet from the movie "Gladiator

I voted Kipchak masked helmets. Would be lovely for the Khergits maybe..

I voted houndskull myself.

One small thing to consider about helmets is that they shouldn't go too low down the chest, as M&B (at least thus far) are rigid so even the neck part spins with the head (or rather doesn't spin with the rest of the body). I'd like to see a change to this however and even some stretching and twisting for models would be great (chain).

I voted Armet, but could have just as easily gone for great bascinet or houndskull - basically, anything with a nice 'feature' visor/faceplate can be made on the basis of the armet helmet.

the other thing would be decorations for helmets.

I suppose the issue of decorations deserves a whole new thread...

agree every human model in M&B should be straped on a stretchbench

i voted rong by the way i should vote fore
:-> Maciejowski Bible style great helm

i chose the armet cause it's fairly different from most helmets currently available, but the great basinet is a sweet looking peice so i had to fight myself not to choose it.

Since there has been so much interest in the armet, I have decided to post some more pictures. Most of these pictures are in black and white unfortunately.

This armet is a bit discoloured and damaged, it's lost its rondelle from the back and the mail "collar", but it shows all the details:

These pictures show how the armet was opened so the warrior could put it on:

These two seem to have had a mail "collar" attached to the lower edge and were possibly meant to be worn with a wrapper, a bover like plate strapped on to the front:

Here's one with a wrapper (probably not the original one though)

Here is a reconstructed armet which has also been "blacked":

There seem to be a few variations; with or without wrapper, with a "chin" and without.

Voted armet. It seems to offer the most practical protection, but you shouldn't be able to use a bow while wearing one.

I've found this picture which shows various types of European helmets:

I choose armet because it appears that armets are the stereotypical knight's helmet. The thing you see on most logos, which would fit pretty well in a medieval combat simulator. But it doesnt really fit very well with the current M&B setting.

would the armet be a helmet that could have feathers on it as a possible varient (and look real good)?

Since you seem so interested in armets I could upload it or get Ursca to put it in his sallet pack or something. I originally intended to use it for HYW but Gandalf didn't include it.

Do you mean like this:

I don't see why not. I think we would have to have two versions though, plumed and unplumed.

Of course other types of helmets could also have plumes or crests.

Actually that's a thought, you could have an armet with a crest, like this one:

I voted 'Other.'

What I'd really love to see is an early style, 12th century Great-helm. That would be the type that was largely just a skullcap with a complete faceplate (and a mail coif to avoid the 'M&B humans are bald' problem of helmets that don't cover the back of the head and neck).

Something like this perhaps?
