OSP 3D Art Mackie's Weapons Pack

Yeah, it was weird; suddenly got hit with two votes and rating was, like, 2.3 or somesuch, no comments or bug-reports though

I think Janus fixed it by fiat, it's like 4 5-stars or something, if people still down-vote it after that, whatever, I just thought it was strange that they didn't even bother complaining about whatever caused them to do that

I noticed, by following different ratings, that there are at least 2 jerks personas that has been hitting 0 star for a whole bunch of stuff on repository, just wait when something comes out and pay attention on ratings.

could you upload it to a different site? I've been trying to download this from the repository within the last 2 days but it always cuts out before it fully downloads, which sadly isn't unusual :/

Yep...saw that myself. It's kind of stupid, since the stuff in this pack is GREAT!

Yes, even Gab's stuff was concerned. In my humble opinion any rating below 2.5 stars should be impossible without submitting any justification for having done so.

It's simply annoying.

Funny Spec RBG + Slight Reskin

Honestly quite fun to play with the pack. I almost wonder how many reskins of the same item look good.... (this was just a test on RGB values, but I actually liked the result of the beads/balls on the cudgel)

It's probably possible to do a lot with the stuff via kitbashing and reskins or simple re-adjustments of the UVs.  Most of it is laid out flat enough that correcting changes to length or width is pretty easy.

Yeah. I only have one crit on the dog cudgel btw (the only crit I shall ever give you... o_O)

The UV map could cut the number of dots/balls on the end of the club in half or less. I had to make an obsidian version for a friend, and I re-uvmapped it just to save time in texturing.

Yeah, it's probably fair to say that the uvs suck in terms of efficiency; probably the entire pack could fit onto a 2048 with room to spare.  However, it all got done ad-hoc and wasn't really intended for people to use all of it; I figure very few mods want Native American cudgels and a Viking falcata unless they're doing the Viking invasion of North America, for example, and then they won't need or want the Japanese gear, etc., etc.

Yeah, good point. On my end, I'm having fun with almost everything since I needed in-game screens. On the upside, you released this just in time for my friend to start his mod and for me to retexture.

Edit: Made a more realistic Native American spear texture too. Gotta fix the UV, but it looks decent atm

Edit 2: If I work on some more retexes, would you mind hosting a link to them in the OP? (Depending on quality). I'd rather not start a brand new post for retextures of yours and Mackie's OSP.

I'd be happy to take kitbashes, reskins, etc. and put them into the pack, especially for the Native American stuff, since I kinda rushed through that

The flattened bat is Mackie's interpretation of a macuahuitl, which was an Aztec weapon.

Mackie used this image of one that somebody built using a baseball bat for his reference:

A-Macahuitl-made-from-a-baseball-bat.JPG

The thing about macuahuitls is that we actually know practically nothing about what they actually looked like; the last existing one was destroyed in a fire, leaving us only this reference sketch:

Macuahuitl.jpg
...and some images made by Catholic priests after the Aztecs had been defeated, but they aren't any more reliable than the stuff in the other such codexes in terms of details.

Lots and lots of different people have tried to built both replicas and do various other pictures of that weapon; the fact of the matter is that we really don't know how they looked, and more crucially how they were constructed.

So Mackie's model's probably not accurate at all; it's a copy of somebody's flight of fancy, basically.  That said, it was a fun thing to paint up and it's probably no sillier than the macuahuitls people have made with really pointy teeth; that sketch and the codexes indicate that the real things were very carefully made to have blades that were flat along the geometry of the edge, which must have taken a great deal of skill and effort on the part of the people who flaked those blades.

mfw this thread, to put it simply. no its not literally my face but anyway.

[edit] oh and screenies would be highly appreciated... yeah i saw a couple of on the first page but... moooaaarrrr

The only ones I have customized are the Native American esque weapons. I may upload the pack, but idk. I'm making all of them for my friend, who needs a mixture of Native American and paleolithic stuff (I had to remodel one or two weapons....)

Can I use your model in your game?
