horse raiders
« on: September 07, 2011, 02:49:48 PM »
we already have the infantry destroyers troop slayers player killers sea raiders, who are basically the ultimate enemy(except for high tier faction troops, but im guessing that sea raiders are more or less nord huscarls in bandit form) so how about the cavalry terror? the nords have good infantry so it only makes sense that their bandits have to be good too right?

well the khergits are almost entirely cavalry, so they have the same for bandits, but what about the high tier cavalry bandits? thats where horse raiders come in, they are more or less sea raider cavalry, because you need a reason to fear the bandits on horses too, they have cavalry bandits but they are more like normal enemies rather than enemies that will probably kill 2 troops per bandit,

now that i think about it there arent any master archer bandits either...

TL;DR sea raiders on horses in khergit lands because the current cavalry bandits dont strike nearly enough fear in your hearts
man, i need something cool to put here

You know, I hardly come near Khergit lands anymore, because their Horse-Archers beat my infantry-only companies. I seriously don't want them to become even stronger, because I hate to fight against them. I can't outrun them, because I'm infantry. If I'm stronger, I can't fight them, because those cowards just run away. And there are more steppe bandits-parties in that thrice-cursed steppes that flies in a Dutch summer!
If they would get stronger, as you apparently suggest, hordes of annoying but OverPowered mongols will bear down on me, because they no longer would run away from my mighty band of 30 Sergeants! And life in Khergit territory would suck even more.

And, beginning players should be able to beat bandits some way. That's what they are for in-game, for when you are finished with Looters but not yet strong enough to beat Lord's armies.

Oh, and I hate Khergits.

Sea Raiders on horses? Why not just strip all of our items and then force us to attack Reyvadin all on our own?

Terrible idea. Sorry OP, but they'd be too powerful, Kherg Bandits are powerful enough.

all the bandits on horses are easy, the only bandits that offer any challenge are sea raiders(they are also the only way to make decent money in vanilla, because you only have at most like 50 guys for a long time, and thats the time you need money, not when you command a 300 man army and 10 fiefs) but even sea raiders are trivial at a point

horse raiders would bridge the gap between

sea raiders--> -empty- --> lords armies

because bandits come in small numbers, but lords come in parties of like 120 when you've got like 40 guys(and thus bandits are way too weak to even want to challenge you, let alone put up a good fight)

how about a compromise, they only appear in khergit lands, just like you avoid sea raiders by staying away from the nords you'll avoid horse raiders by staying away form the khergits

There are ultimate steppe bandits in the troop files. Black Khergit Horsemen, its a simple task with the troop editor to add them to Steppe Bandit Parties.
I spit on thou from mine horse, and shoot you with a rusty bolt, I eat Swadian Knights for breakfast, Khergit Horse Archers for lunch and bandits for supper. All with a fine side of Velucian wine, which I find helps wash down those knights morning stars. I am a Rhodok and I will not be suppressed!

The tactic is being untactical.

Pardon me, is that an insult?

Nope. I just want to say, that it's not good to revive(or dig out) old threads. They are "old" for a reason...

I think he had enough input to justify reviving the thread.

Black khergit horsemen, huh? I'd like to notice, that in case of statistics, they seem rather weak. Their equipment is not good either. As an unit, they seem rather weak. And if they were to be implemented, they'd be more of annoying than challenging enemy to fight with.

In native 1.0 onwards, if you do not modify or add any new troops, Black Khergit Horsemen are one of the only troops that can deliver crouched lance damage, the rest seem to be unable to because they are armed with a shield.

In Warband, the shield doesn't do it (unless they are constantly blocking, which might happen if facing a huge ranged threat)...it's the item flag "itcf_couchable", which is only on lances. Steppe and Taiga bandits have a chance of getting spears, not lances, which would prevent those from couching. Those that get the light lances will couch, however. And Black Khergits, unedited in the recent (and current) versions of Warband, also have this chance at getting a non-couchable spear rather than a lance.
