Hey Gab you do know gringo means stupid american right?

It means "foreigner." I didn't take it as being insulting in the context.
Hah! True like the bible, Auld.
Gaham, I used to call some american friends Yankee as well....but never insulting them, just kidding like now that me and Auld were playing some "Music Duel" kind, see?
I dont mind if a Friend of mine calls me Maccaroni, or else...if in a clearly joking context.Different is if somone says bad things about ALL italians to be mean, or talks down ANY people or race... :???:...then you loose my respect.

Back to music/movies....so folks, where were we at??

Basically only Western films which are popular in here, are based on Karl May stories (german production, filmed in Jugoslavia)

and of course many more, I ll post some more tomorrow
Good stuff Rad! Are you ex-YU?  I'd forgotten about Karl May and that tradition.

Maybe we could have the music in the mod triggered by which region you go to (is this possible?) so if you ride west it's Western Movies kinda stuff, if you ride east it's Civil War and if you go in to Mexico I'll try and make a Conjunto playlist.

Always loved the Bonnie Blue Flag.

This is probably how a band would have played it in downtown Charleston in 1862.

Some Union, blue belly, stuff:

what about some irish music? This is one of my all time favorites. The title is Johnny has gone for a soldier

music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8tLUc3Cskk&feature=related

the words I know by heart. its an amazing song

"Shu-la shu-la, shu-la-grah,
Time can only heal my woe,
Since the lad of my heart from me did go,
For Johnny is gone for a soldier

I wish I was on yonder hill,
It's there I'd sit and cry my fill,
So every tear might turn a mill,
For Johnny is gone for a soldier.
(Chorus)
I'll sell my frock, I'll sell my wheel,
By my love a sword of steel,
So in the battle he may reel,
For Johnny is gone for a soldier.
(chorus)
I'll dye my dress all over red,
And over the world I'll beg my bread,
So all my friends may think me dead,
For johnny is gone for a soldier.

Well not exactly, I am from Czech republic, but this films were very liked in former Eastern block (not all films from capitalistic world were allowed to go here), even if it is not historically accurate (May was never in America), it is interesting stuff to watch.

And i suggested same about the regional music in suggestion topic. It works like this in AD1257! So its definitelly possible to code.

Oh ok! I have never seen a Karl May film (or read him). Incidentally I believe Hitler, of all people, was a huge fan of his. Which is...kinda surprising.

I think the regional music is the way to go. I think Gab does know how to code the music to play at certain times so I think he could manage it. I know he configured a lot of the music in 1755.

very nice! I like it!

another heartbreaker song for you all

Camping tonight on the old tent ground.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GukfrBII-xQ

We're tenting tonight on the old camp ground,
Give us a song to cheer
Our weary hearts,
a song of home,
And friends we love so dear.

chorus:
Many are the hearts that are weary tonight,
Wishing for the war to cease;
Many are the hearts that are looking for the right
To see the dawn of peace.
Tenting tonight, tenting tonight, tenting on the old camp ground

We've been tenting tonight on the old camp ground,
Thinking of days gone by,
Of the loved ones at home that gave us the hand
And the tear that said "Goodbye!"

We are tired of war on the old camp ground,
Many are dead and gone,
Of the brave and true who've left their homes,
Others been wounded long.

We've been fighting today on the old camp ground,
Many are lying near;
Some are dead and some are dying,
Many are in tears.

Final Chorus:
Many are the heart that are weary tonight,
Wishing for the war to cease;
Many are the hearts that are looking for the right
To see the dawn of peace
Dying tonight, dying tonight, dying on the old camp ground.

the boys of the irish Brigade:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsX-UJN2krs
What for should I sing you of Roman or Greek,
Or the boys we hear tell of in story?
Come match me for fighting, for frolic, or freak,
An Irishman's reign in his glory;
For Ajax, and Hector, and bold Agamemnon,
Were up to the tricks of our trade, O,
But the rollicking boys, for war, ladies and noise,
The boys of the Irish Brigade, O!

What for should I sing you of Helen or Troy,
Or the mischief that came by her flirting?
There's Biddy M'Clinchy the pride of Fermoy,
Twice as much of a Helen, that's certain.
Then for Venus, so famous, or Queen Cleopatra,
Bad luck to the word should be said, O,
By the rollicking boys, for war, ladies and noise,
The Boys of the Irish Brigade, O!

What for should I sing you of classical fun,
Or of games, whether Grecian or Persian?
Sure the Curragh's the place where the knowing one's done,
And Mallow that flogs for diversion.
For fighting, for drinking, for ladies and all,
No time like our times e'er was made, O,
By the rollicking boys, for war, ladies and noise,
The boys of the Irish Brigade, O!

Great start, i like a lot the uniforms, if you impliment correct faction names and character names it can be a lot more playable, but anyway very good start!

That's the plan. We'll get the right names in and characters. We've got a big map to work with so we're going to open it up beyond just the Civil War (that will be in there always) but include western Indians, Bandits, Mexicans vs French. The whole shebang.

"et Bacchus' sons be not dismayed
But join with me, each jovial blade
Come, drink and sing and lend your aid
To help me with the chorus":

Chorus
Instead of spa, we'll drink brown ale
And pay the reckoning on the nail;
No man for debt shall go to jail
From Garryowen in glory.

We'll beat the bailiffs out of fun,
We'll make the mayor and sheriffs run
We are the boys no man dares dun
If he regards a whole skin.

Chorus

Our hearts so stout have got no fame
For soon 'tis known from whence we came
Where'er we go they fear the name
Of Garryowen in glory.
Chorus

7TH Cavalry Version

1.
We are the pride of the army,

And a regiment of great renown,

Our name’s on the pages of history,

From sixty six on down.

If you think we stop or falter,

While into the fray we’re goin’

Just watch the step with our heads erect

When our band plays "Garry Owen."

Chorus

In the Fighting Seventh’s the place for me.

It’s the cream of all the cavalry;

No other regiment ever can claim

It’s pride, honor, glory, and undying fame.

2.
We know no fear when stern duty

Calls us far away from home,

Our country’s flag shall sagely o’er us wave,

No matter where we roam.

T’is the gallant Seventh Cavalry,

It matters not where we’re goin’

such you’ll surely say as we march away,

When our band plays "Garry Owen."

3.
Then hurrah for our brave commanders!

Who lead us into the fight.

We’ll do or die in our country’s cause.

And battle for the right.

And when the war is o’er

And to our home we’re goin’

Just watch the step, with our head erect,

When our band plays, "Garry Owen."
