To all warriors of the Vikingr mod! It is a wonderful thing to see the use of historical names within the game.

When you see the use of historical names within the game, immersion and atmosphere increases tenfold. Memories of the sagas and poems translates wonderfully into the mod. We become acquainted with the name and with the face of a player, our efforts and actions upon the field of battle becomes something to be remembered.
It would be appreciated if the Vikingr mod saw more players take up the initiative of using historical names and nicknames.

An excellent example of this are the many warriors whom are not affiliated with any clans in Vikingr: Eadric, Thorkell, Svein_Haakonson, Hengwulf, Thorvaldr, Egill_Skallagrimsson, Svyatoslav, Godric_of_Surrey, Einarr_Einarsson and many other warriors.

Now, to the lists and links!

This is also a great place. Btw, I created an, ingame character if you will  "Turold of Normandy". Couldnt figure any proper Norman provinces to name after, Normandy was the logical choice.

Hrm.. So a name like Thorlak The Bald is not exactly what your looking for?  I need a good last name.  I think it would be cool if clans tags were just last names.  That way you can keep the identification and also add a level of immersion.  For example, Clan Haakonson (they are a  violent bunch).  Just a thought.

Thorlak the Bald is great!

Yesterday I saw the best name ever : OLAF THE BABY SWALLOWER!

At first I was like

But then, I

He was also defending the town in a raid, I insisted for him not to eat the town babies!

Hm, maybe I should change "Leo_the_Warden" which was nothing but an awful pun anyway. It's a nice idea to have more historically probable names. Also; maybe this one helps?

Oh, we Haakonson's aren't a clan, it's just me and Svein; we're brothers! But yes, we're hardy and violent raiders!
Yeah!! The english people fear our names! They tell their children to be good, or Harkon Haakonson, the Headsplitter will takes theirs! And after sunset their bar their houses and pray to never see the axe of the Wrathful Svein Haakonson!

Fixed.

Dear Eiríkr Rauði, thank you very much!

Dear Warriors, we can all do this mod unique in design! Historical names and banners is an integral component of the design of this mod.

Compare with the mod Muskets: there is also the name of clan historical (example "33ndReg_", ...), a rank  historical (example "Colonel, Sergeant", ...), as well as many names (example "Bernadotte, Davou", ...). Let's surpass them in the same design on our favorite mod "Vikingr"! Is that so hard??!

It would be wonderful if the themselves developers of mod will give in this an example, how this was done Dear Eiríkr Rauði (as Eirikur in game).

Some clans are served at this point of fun a great example: "Fyrningas", "The Fyrd of Lewes" (and their sub-clan), "The Anglo-Saxons", "Vikingar ok Nordmenn"
and some other warriors of other clans (for example, [Einherjar]_Angantyr, [Shieldings]_Harkon_Haakonson, [Einherjar]_Absalon, [Shieldings]_Hengist)

Link itself is not all national names fit in this mod!
I suggest that, as Dear Eadric, limit the choice of names only national names: Old Norse, Anglo-Saxon, Ancient Germanic, Ancient Irish, Traditional Gaelic, Old Slavic, Old Finnish and Old Estonian, Old Baltic, Old Frisian, Briton, Norman and French.
Better not to biblical names and their derivatives, analogues of the Hebrew and Greek languages

About name "Turold" I found this information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilbert_fitz_Turold http://www.20000-names.com/origin_of_baby_names/etymology_T_male/meaning_of_the_name_turold.htm http://www.geni.com/people/Thorold-of-Lincoln/6000000001744982839

This is not a suitable option for everyone! In our clan, "Vikingar ok Nordmenn" more than thirty people: all of us to be "_Olafsson" or "_Sigurdarsson"?
Unfortunately, in the game can not always play with the rank of a warrior clan (for example, a class leader "Höfðingi"), and a set of money does not give also possible that if you play a class vigilantes "Hirðmaðr". In the sagas rank follows the name, as well as type of activity (for example http://norse.ulver.com/src/isl/grettir/is.html http://www.sagadb.org/grettis_saga.en "Önundur var víkingur.....Kjötvi konungur....Haraldur konungur lagði að skipi Þóris haklangs því að Þórir var hinn mesti berserkur og fullhugi"). So I was able to design their own clan to display not only the name of the clan, but Sagas description of warriors in a similar position (name_rank_type of activity/but at the same time membership to a clan.  Note the difference in the name of our clan-"VikingAr" and in the design nickname of our fully-"..._..._Vikingr").
Unfortunately, the game does not fit the full name and rank with the name of the name kind of activity. Therefore, we our rank only write across the consonants. But the very construction of transfer of the name, and then of the rank, and then of the kind of activity we in the design kept. (For example, Styrkarr_Hrdmdr_Vikingr)

Dear FrisianDude, thank you very much for the wonderful link to the Frisian names of our time in the game! It would be good to put it in the first post, if will not mind Dear Eirikur.
I am sorry please, but I'm not found "Leo" as nation name of Viking age, our nations in game! This historical name from Ancient Greek and Latin and later as Christian name http://www.behindthename.com/name/leo http://www.behindthename.com/name/leon
But "The Warden" as nickname in history.
If you are not hard, then please choose thee one of the Frisian names. You'll look nice with it! Support, please, movement of the fans and the unique design of mod.
For example, "Liudulf"

Oh yes, I've always known Leo isn't a very early medieval Germanic name. Liudulf sounds like a pretty good alternative. I'll certainly consider it.

Edit; heh, I looked through the list again in the L- section;
Liudger - name of a school community.
Liudward - very similar to the Frisian capital city Leeuwarden (Ljouwert in Frisian) after which I had called myself Leo_the_warden.

So I could do Liudward but Liudulf_the_Warden (maybe I can Anglicize that) sounds better than Liudward_the_Warden.

Interesting information, thank you. I think, Dear Eadric can help you with Frisian and your nickname, issued on the Frisian of the time.

Dear Ulfvaldr, would you give me some Normans names? My knowledge about them are only the siculo-pugliese names of normans, like Guiscard or Robert or William or Boemond.

Dear Svein, my knowledge of their names no more accidentally found by references to Google search
it's important that we should take into account: http://www.behindthename.com/glossary/view/normans
with some caution may be guided by this list of names: http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/norman
