v0.800 Bug reporting thread (Updated - workaround/fixes so far)
« on: November 24, 2006, 01:57:03 AM »
Sorry AA, stealing your post :P

Render Target texture failed / RGL errors / Programmable Shaders / Nvidia Cards

 Try turning off Programmable Shaders.

Confirmed - crash appears to be Nvidia specific. Since the vertex memory errors tend to appear in the log file, I'm assuming this is a problem with M&B's implementation of the shaders - it appears ATI cards will run with the option selected, but the actual graphical affects seem to be other than intended.
Cards which support Shader 1.0 only appear to be fine.

Possible fix might be to force shader model 1.1, though not sure if this would be overwritten when starting up M&B. Moot anyway, since doing so would defeat the object of the exercise as far as I can tell.

If the error carries on, try deactivating environmental shadows. Might work for certain assertion errors too.

Black / missing water texture
Fairly certain this is linked to the above problem. Think there's a problem with the shaders running on Nvidia. Suggest waiting for the bugfix and seeing if things are improved

Shield given through River Pirate quest causes crash
Confirmed. Recomend you either don't take the shield, or dispose of it at the armourer.
Equipping the shield causes a CTD.

Might be possible to use the shield if you leave Zendar, enter another scene and equip the shield.

Unresponsive Keyboard
 Haven't been able to replicate
Suggest checking all of the accessability features of Windows are deactivated (control panel - accessability)
If that doesn't clear it, please identify the type of keyboard you are using (wireless/USB/PS2)

Screwed up window graphics and similar

Disable large fonts. That should fix it.

Couldn't find dx---.dll error
Download and install latest Direct X release from Microsoft

Couched lance damage against walls
Yup, those walls are evil.

Missing people / conversations
It appears that the conversations with Marnid and Borcha screw up. Marnid is recruitable if you already have the padded cloth the first time you talk to him, else he gets a bit strange.
Also, aliens appear to be abducting NPC's from the length and breadth of Calradia. Suggest equipping some form of tinfoil hat when wandering.

Infinite XP & knives Exploit
Some quests (specifically the training ground ones) make it possible to gain infinite XP and items.

Battles continuing after killing all opponents / Bad spawn positions when entering battle
Those NPC thieving aliens appear to be incredibly bad at returning their 'loot' after probing/impregnation. Sometimes, they drop them six foot above ground level. Sometimes under or behind it.

No real workaround. If you have ranged weapons you might sometimes be able to take out the enemies this affects. Other times you won't be able to do anything but retreat.

Assertion Failed after battle / quests

Possibly occurs when your character levels, then attempts to exit the scene before distributing skill points. When possible, level up your character before attempting to leave the battle / complete the quest.

Still working on replicating other reported issues

If your posting any graphics related problems, please include the make & model of graphics card.

Will update further as I can until .801

Since we're all good beta testers, I thought I'd start a thread with any 'non-fatal' errors we encountered with the new version.  Just because it doesn't crash the game doesn't mean it's not worth mentioning!

I've noticed some materials missing.  The RGL_log tells me that 'limestone' and 'soft_stone' are missing.

Yoink! :P

Before reporting something as a bug, please check that you can a) replicate the problem and b) provide instructions with how to replicate the problem

Hardware report would also be nice if it seems hardware related

Oh, and no grammar errors/spelling mistakes/similar. There's quite a few, but we can worry about those later.

EDIT[Pnak]
The two most common bugs at the moment are crashes.  Please check these solutions before posting.

Crashing out of scenes or conversations with 'assertion failed texture.h line 270' -> turn off environment shadows in options/video options

Failing to start with 'can't find d3dx9_30.dll' -> install the latest DirectX 9.0c, the october version.  Armagan has mentioned this in his release thread, so hopefully everyone will know.

?

And how're you playing the new version?

Step 1: Download the 77Mb file
Step 2: Install
Step 3: Launch as per any other previous M&B version

Hope this helps ::D

Of course I'm still stuck on step one as I'm downloading at a rate of 3.5Kbps ::\

EDIT: Oh and I want to wish Janus, Archon, LL and Pavlov good luck with bringing this one back under control. I don't recall such chaos for any previous version releases or at any other time on the forums for that matter. Logging off now to hopefully make things a little easier ::)

I have one! I have one!

First thing I did after murdering some river pirates was to go pick up Borcha at Rivacheg. Thing is, Count Mira doesn't acknowledge his existence and Borcha's dialogue, while intriguing, seems a bit out of context as well. I can't get him!

EDIT:

An addendum. After the initial down-on-his-luck spiel, Marnid's dialogue is exactly the same as Borcha's - I can ask him to join me, to which he replies I don't have the capacity; I can ask him to stay there; or I can leave troops with him, which crashes out. That may just be because I don't have any troops yet.

Also, Dranton uses bandit dialogue!

Hmm......

I sure hope you guys didn't take advantage of my ignorance and disguise some giant virus file.

Mine's running at 160kb/s......

How come it's not on the site anywhere?

That'd be one awesome, audio-visual, fully-rendered swordfighting virus! :D

Don't forget to report any bugs you encounter!

It's still not officially released as Armagan hasn't posted about it. It got leaked when Karka found the new version file.
Tomas asked Dolgan, "What place is this?"
The dwarf puffed on his pipe. "It is a glory hole, laddie. When my people mined this area, we fashioned many such areas."

Ironically, I can't play the game myself as it crashes after character creation with an RGL target texture error.  Oh wells. :)

Uuuh... this isn't good.

I started downloading by reflex, then cancelled my download, because I didn't want to get version issues like "which version are you using, the v0.8 that was leaked, or the official release v0.8?"

Basically I get the feeling that if you download now, you're sucking up taleworlds bandwidth which you'll use AGAIN once the official bugfixed v0.8 is released.

Somebody should tell the devs to remove the file until they're ready to release it.

You know, I think most people can handle 77Mb.  If you have to download again later, so what?

It's tragically trivial to stop the release simply by moving a file, so I doubt there are any problems at their end.  'Tell the devs'?  It's the internet for gods sake man! :)
