Mount and Blade II-A Petition to Taleworlds
« on: May 29, 2011, 05:24:45 PM »
Dear Taleworlds Developing team. This thread started long before you even announced Mount and Blade 2.I wasn't even sure you would move on with the game. But since you decided, this Community asks you to heavily consider making Mount and Blade II a wonderful game that will not only allow us a medieval-true gameplay and a MUST elite and revolutionary graphical parts of 2012 but even a wide variety of modding options, especially for Fantasy-based mods that have nearly no possibility to be developed as needed in the current versions. So,I ask you to read this petition and incorporate the dreams of players and modders alike in the new installation of the game.

Quotes from Tywin Lannister:
"Some battles are won with swords and spears, others with quills and ravens."
"There is a tool for every task, and a task for every tool."
"And any man who must say ‘I am the king’ is no true king at all."
"No man is free. Only children and fools think elsewise."
... when your enemies defy you, you must serve them steel and fire. When they go to their knees, however, you must help them back to their feet. Elsewise no man will ever bend the knee to you.

You forgot more hero options. And intriuge missions. And joining an army.

I'd like to see 5 tiers of lords, as opposed to 2 (lords and monarchs)-- Barons, Counts, Dukes, Kings, Emperors. These could and should be renamed based on faction, naturally. Sarranids for example could be Magistrate, Bey, Emir, Sultan, Caliph (too religious? I don't know).

The idea being that a baron can control only one village, and have no vassals. A count can control a city or a castle (not both) and/or multiple villages, and vassalize barons. A Duke can control any number of any type of settlement, and vassalize barons and counts. A King vassalizes dukes and can only be vassalized by an Emperor. There'd be no limits on the amount of fiefs a King or Emperor could control.

With a system like this in place I think politics could be vastly improved.

I'd also like to see aging, death, inheritance, and growth of children among all the lords.

The above ideas could create quests around claims (dethrone my brother, delegitimize my father, etc.), families (force King to disown vassal, convince commoners to rebel against family, reinstate bastard, legitimize king), and intrigues (bring this duke to this king, brings all that dukes vassals as well, bring duke to monarch status, bring king to emperor status).

The highest rank one could attain would be based on right-to-rule, i.e. legitimacy.

Just some ideas from a Crusader Kings fan ;)

Why not? With expanded political systems and a larger map I could see games easily going to 12-15 years, enough for children characters to become adults, newborns to become teens, etc.
Child/infant kings could create a whole other set of complications.

Other quests:
(inspired by Samurai)- Kidnapping family members, framing lords by placing items in their household, assassinating important townsmen to reduce lords legitimacy/city loyalty, Rescue a character from bandits
(inspired by Darklands)- Find artifact (if you like the quest-giver, bring it to them to improve relations/legitimacy, if you don't, it's a special weapon/armour you can use), Find documents (bring to owner for legitimacy, bring to owner's rival for opposite), Learn religious info (tied to religious system? Similar to honour but a second stat, which allows improving or degrading relations with lords/cities)

I would LOVE to see it where I can be a soldier and move up ranks, be under a lord, commanding a certain amount of units he has given me, like a ranking system- Private only follow orders and move with the ranks, Corporal- able to command a small amount, but is still within the ranks... and it goes on and on.

It would be nice before I start the game I can customize each faction, like you can change their color, starting spot. What type of units. Like you have a check list, there are 5 factions and 5 levels of armor types, lightest to heaviest, you can select 1 type for each faction so someone is going to have the lightest while someone is going to have the heaviest, goes for ironflesh levels, archers, infantry, etc. I know it maybe hard to understand but I see it as awesome, but then again there are the default so its not one sided, after this is sandbox! :D

Aswell to the OP, thank you for posting this, it makes me feel great I am not the only one wanting this. I am playing campaign at the moment and was thinking so much can be done! This game is far from perfect, but its on the right path! (I am not saying it sucks, its pure awesome, but with this kind of game more, more, more!!!!!)

PS. I would also love it so we can change the themes, so that would require more armor textures/skins, weapon skins, etc. Because I love the European style, but with Warband Swadia is the main European styled faction, Rhodoks are seriously spears, Nords... well they are Nords. So it would be nice to make the theme of the factions eastern european, to western european aswell as maybe later- Middle Eastern and Asian themes, but of course aswell mixes of themes!

Official Map editor!! ... oh and being able to join a Lord and move up the ranks until you deserve to be given a Noble title. Ie a vassal of your Lord before becoming a Lord yourself. Encourages in depth gameplay and more room for new quests and ability to gain more coin and/or  rep/honor and Modability ;)
