Hey guys, this is my more recent project that I've been working on for quite a while. It's based on my childhood daydreams and fantasies, though most of the story has changed. But the core of the story, a small country/city-state that conquers bigger kingdoms and becomes an Empire, is still there. Now then...

Long ago, a tribe of people fled their homeland and wandered around the world looking for lands to settle in. Years passed, and soon the tribe found themselves in the northern highlands of the continent known as Haelion. The land was infertile, but they settled in the area when they found rich mines of tin. However, the chieftain had a dream, telling him to go further north to the coast, where he would "find their salvation". Taking his most trusted companions, he arrived at the coasts and arrived at a fishing village, where they met some shipwrecked sailors, desperate to find their way back home. Trading wood to repair the ships in return for the knowledge of seafaring and ship making, the sailors finally went back home. The chieftain then realized that he could set up a kingdom where sailors would come and trade for their rich tin. Before long, the fishing village developed into a trading hub.

Centuries passed. The chieftain's descendant, Marcus Flavius II, forged a great empire that stretched from the eastern coasts of Haelion to the steppes far to the west. A few more centuries, and the capitol was then moved further inland as sea raiders plundered the coasts. The great empire soon began to crumble as corruption, disunity and hatred began to spread. In the end, the empire was destroyed through infighting, and the barbarian invasions that came later only worsened the situation.

A multitude of petty kingdoms began to emerge from the remains of the broken empire. A religion, the worship of the Holy Light, began to emerge, and the island of Taeliun became the Holy See, the center of the religion. Under the banner of the new faith, the Grand Duchy of Royeaux emerged, uniting them as it conquered its neighbours one by one. The Northmen, as they were called, sailed from the frozen wastelands further north of the continent and settled in the southern portion of Haelion and began taking land for its own, forming the Kingdom of Skanesheim. The Grand Duchy and the Kingdom began fighting an everlasting war. Meanwhile, a remnant of the Empire still remained, and called themselves Basileia Ourheion. They waged war with the Holy See after a dispute over the faith.

The Grand Duchy of Royeaux soon set its sights on the northern highlands of the Dál Árann clans, the cradle of the old empire. The highlanders were defeated after a decade of fighting, destroying a large portion of the clans. The survivors were treated harshly under the iron fist of the Grand Duchy's rule. Multiple uprisings were led against the invaders over the course of the next few centuries, but the Grand Duchy put them down time after time.

But then came the time, when a great hero was born. A man known as Diabhail mac Tire began to rally his fellow brethren and rebelled against the Grand Duchy. Armies were sent against them, but they were decisively defeated. Months passed, and after raiding the Grand Duchy, they began to march on the city of Arlaus, an important and strategic port at the northern tip of the continent, the place where it all began. After months of siege, the highlanders assaulted the city and slaughtered the soldiers, claiming the city for themselves and founded the Kingdom of Dál Árann, after the Dál Árann clans. Within months, several castles in the highlands were retaken from the Grand Duchy.

However, your task is far from done. You, Diabhail mac Tire, as King of Dal Arann, must lead your new nation as it struggles to survive in this cruel world.

Factions:

Kingdom of Dál Árann - Based on the Scottish Highlanders and the Kingdom of Dalriada. Pikemen all the way, gallowglasses and cavalry towards the end.
Grand Duchy of Royeaux - Based on medieval France and pretty much most of the European kingdoms. Strong cavalry, weak infantry.
Basileia Ourheion - Based on the Byzantine Empire. Not sure yet on how they will be like, but they will have kataphracts.
The Holy See - Based on the Papal States. Will have highly zealous crusader knights defending them.
Kingdom of Skanesheim - Based on the Norse Vikings. Heavy infantry, no cavalry except lords and elite troops.
Marevan Rus - Based on the Kievan Rus. Light, but they have guerilla tendencies (if I ever decide to implement ambushes that is)
Heiliges Niechten Reich - Based on the HRE/HRR. Balanced troops.
Kingdom of Przeraźliwy - Polish. Has WINGED Hussars!
Maghrawide Caliphate - Based on the Fatimid Caliphate. Will have good horse archers on skirmish mode, as the desert is a great place for hit and run tactics. They will come to the continent of Haelion as an invasion, just like in SoD.

We still need more factions. Please suggest by replying below.

Alright, the map has already been completed since yesterday, but I only uploaded it on Imageshack today.

Some new screens as well. Check it out at the second post.

I could also use some help in determining the troop trees. And perhaps some references to highlanders please?

Uhm... He hasn't got any factions done yet... sooo... He could include monsters or weird fantastical units or something

This was a reply to Nod, btw

EDIT: I like that map. If you could get a good spread of towns/castles/villages then it could be very, very good.

Awesome looking start Demon! I'll get my thinking cap on and get back to you, once you have a name ect throw me a line I'll do a loader concept for ya

Yes for the Polish faction.
Secondly, how is this fantasy?

All right. Yes for the Polished Polish faction.

It's fantasy because it's not real.

I'm still not sure whether to put different races and such though. You see, this story is based on my childhood fantasies and daydreams, though most of it has changed, such as the map, name, etc.

Add medieval muslims factions: i suggest Maghrawide califate as name

Alrighty. Should it be based on the Seljuqs, the Abbasids, the Ayyubids, the Fatimids, the Almohads or the Almoravids?
