Buying new graphics card

Users who are viewing this thread

So yeah, I need to buy a new graphics card. Although I can't buy it right now as I dont have money but my birthday is a few months away and would like to atlesat have some idea what to get. The budget for it is around 170-230 euros. Current system specs:

Asus m4a87td usb3

Amd Phenom II x4 955 black edition 3.2ghz

Kingston Hyperx 4gb 1600mhz

Corsair 430 watt

Information of the psu below.

I've heard very good things about the nVidia GT 460, particularly the Cyclone version from MSI with custom fan. I would suggest SLi as well as two 460s in SLi will slaughter much more expensive cards, but only if your MoBo can support it.

In any case, my recommendation would be either a GT 460 if you're an nVidia fan, or an Radeon 6870 if you prefer ATI. In both cases though, you might want to look at a better PSU. A safe bet in my opinion is, about 600W which you can pick up for under £40 if you're going for a cheap brand, or about £60-65 if you want a better known brand such as CoolerMaster or Corsair.

Yes. Doesn't support sli, nor crossfire. My other mobo supports crossfire, but it's too old for any good.
This is what I found from jimm's, where most likely Ill order the part/parts.

Here's a list of the nvidia cards. Sorted by price.

Give some ideas of which of them particularly is good. About the psu, well, I may and my not be able to get one, due to my bugdet. It's either a good card or a not too card + a new psu.

Well I can't read a damn word of the descriptions from that site, but there will likely be very little variation in the cards themselves.
If you intend to tweak with it yourself save some money and buy a cheaper one, then up the speeds yourself, but if not then it shouldn't matter overly much.

If I was you, I'd get the Cyclone 768MB (the 1GB version costs about £40 more and offers only a few fps better according to reviews I've read from people) which gives you about £60 to spend on a new PSU as well, as the card itself is only 160 euros.

Is 430 watt real power supply? In this link psu have 580 watt(i didn't find productivity)

If you have 580 watt(possible %8+) you can get hd 6850. Also 460 good card but performance per watt is lower than 6850.

Well, atleast for me it said that it's 430 watt. Some other information:

Dc output: +3.3v +5v    +12v      -12v    +5vsb
Max load:  20a  20a      28a      0.8a      3a
                      120W      336W    9.6W    15W

Edit: Is there any reliable place that would be able to ship to finland + would be cheap? Not a problem to get them from finland but just though if it would be possible to get them cheaper.

Hola again, and sorry for the necro. So, I think my budget for the card is 250 euros. Ill get the psu later on. For now, I need to know what is the best choice?

I'm going to get it from jimms pc:

Go 460, though I'd recommend the 1GB Sonic version over the Cyclone. Picked mine up for a lot less than 250. And you really need a new PSU, 430watt just isn't enough to power it. I know, my last PSU was that same one, my CPU is the 965, and I have the sonic 460

Yeah I know I need a new psu. But as I said, Ill buy later on. I don't want to take the money off from the card right now. Ill get the money for the psu in summer so no worries  Or even faster.

Hmm. The 460 seems interesting to say.

My point is, you could get the 460 AND a good PSU for less than 250

Just make sure to get the 1GB and not the 768 - They're two very different cards. The 1GB is a scaled down 480 IIRC, while the 768 is just a beefy budget card. Very big difference.

OCZ do good PSUs, and they're pretty cheap. Go modular if you can, much less hassle with the wiring. And my StealthxStream is pretty damn quiet. 600w one of these would do the job nicely, and only cost me about £40.

Just checked, you can pick a 1gb 460 and a 600w one of those up for under 250.

Alrighty then. I have 250 euros to spend, or a tad over. Gimme the best options. Again, from here:
