Well, I dont understand any **** in this mod about how to make money.. Everything is too expensive and you dont have any money at all at the beginning..

It is much easier to make money in BW than native. If you don't have any problem making money in the un-modded game, then you shouldn't here.

In Native, you can make a lot of money by fighting looters. At the beginning of BW, you can't because troops are too expensive, you start with 100 scillings and looters are about 15-35..

Have you try some quest? Caravans escort is good idea. You can attack weak parties, like farmers, clerics... or buy cheap iron and sell it in other side more expensive.
If you like battle, you can help to a lord (or other party) when he is fight with enemy, you will get loot for sell in towns.

What I did was fight in the arena until I had enough money to bet the max in the tournaments. It ain't easy, but you get to hone your fighting skills and lvl up while making the money. Train one handed weapon skills and be careful as arena matches are one of the toughest I've ever had to face in any mod. If you beat all the opponents you get $250 or beat at least x amount for a lesser reward.  After that I just kept fighting in tournament after tournament and haven't spent any money on equipment because some cities hand out free goodies at the end of the tournament.

When I had enough $$$$ I bought a winery and still have no troops other than my companions. Fighting in this mod is kinda hard seeing as you have to stop for an hour or longer every time you beat a band, unless you don't mind losing honor of course in which case go wild.

I will try what you said.

I dont know if my game is bugged, but I paid about 200 to hire 4 guys. On the screen i see "Recruiting 4 of that men will cost you 80", and when i click on hire i see "You have lost 200+ scillings".

Is that normal ? I use a patch traduction for my language..

I always start out by attacking bands of Theows solo.  Use your horse to run circles around the enemy and jab their heads with your spear.  After killing a band or 2, you can upgrade your spear to something longer.  I use a long spear (saxon, boar, or hasta) to kill from a distance while riding around the enemy band and that rapidly allows you to generate renown and experience.  After killing off several bands of theows by yourself, you usually accumulate enough loot and prisoners to sell.  When you get close to 1,000 scillingas, buy salt or iron and start trading.  A great trade route is to buy flax bundles from Licidfelth (sp?) and sell it at Emain Macha in Ireland.  The profit margin is usually 300-500 scillingas and the flax bundles are light enough to carry solo w/o being overtaken by bandit parties.  I like to play solo for as long as possible b/c I like the challenge.  It's actually amazing how quickly you can pack away the $ if you trade intelligently.  When you get enough $ buy a wine press in Ireland, Temair or Dun Keltair are good choices.  They usually produce over 2,000 scillingas in net profit.

So, another post after 182 days of silence in this thread^^
The new version of BW (1.37) made it so much harder to earn money with the productive enterprises.
For example: an wine press costs about 26000 denars. Every week, we get an estimated profit of, lets say, 600 Denars. I. e. that it takes about 40 weeks (=10 months) until the investment makes profit itself. Thats way too long.
I'm fighting for Mierce and that makes it very hard finding a trading partner, so it's impossible to finance a great army.
Any tips how to solve this problem?

As awesome as this mod is, the prices for enterprices are to high!

Actually i got some questions too

What have you tried?
Set up businesses in towns, use the salt mine (Salinae), loot instead of leaving it. Use the supply wagon.

Like Lif said, its quite expensive to start a business at the beginning of the game. You have to make money another way.
You dont have much soldiers either, since you dont have a lot of money, so you cant fight a lot of bandits - and therefore you can earn money that way.
The supply wagon? I dont even know where to buy ponies. There are so few, and when i saw one in the horse market, it was deadly expensive and couldnt afford it. So i still dont have the money to build one.

I managed, after 50 days or so, to earn some money by trading, which was by far the best option. That way i bumped into some companions and could hire them. Then i made more and more money always by trading so i could afford better equipment.
Now after 60 days or so, i have ~ 4 000 scillings. I still dont have enough to have a suppply wagon...

Is there another way to make money except by "trading" at the beginning of the game? Btw i started as a monk.

this isnt a rant about the difficulty of earning money, i love it that way! just want to expend my knowledge on the game, thanks.

one of the best possibilities to earn money as a newbie is to search for the "taxes" quest.
i.e. a lord gives you the quest to collect the taxes for him, and you may keep one fifth of it.
after collecting the taxis, you have infinite time to pay the lord back, so i use this money (about 3000-5000 $) to
start trading. when i am finally rich, he can have his money back

i also do like it when it is not that easy to make money, but these enterprises suck ass.
with the taxes of one village, you can pay maybe 10 soldiers' wages, so taxes don't help really either.
The only ways to earn big money are battles or trading.
The first one is extremely risky, as you normally loose a lot of soldiers, which compensates the profit of the battle.
The latter one takes like forever, and i don't want to spent 2/3 of my playing time traveling around to trade, especially later
when I have armies of several hundred men.
Please do somethin about that, dear Devs.

I make most of my money selling prisoners

Same. Selling prisoners and loot. You can solo a group of 5 or 6 theows and try taking a prisoner or two right from the beginning of the game. Get a few recruits to help you get prisoners, rinse and repeat.

With 500 warriors you should have a lot of free space for prisoners ! Just fight and sell them to a ransom broker.
100 prisoners gives you between 10 000 sc and 20 000 sc, so you can definitely pay your wage in a week.

Trade is good but it takes a lot of time to travel and you will have a lot of morale issues especially with a party that big.

I have my army but they are expensive i rather not go trabe from now on im a lord, looting dont give you anymore the nice stuff that you can sell for hich pricess, fighting takes too long and its too expensive for me,my army is not that big and not that strong.
ANy tips that i can make money, without trabing.

No, i'm not that far in the game yet. I just wonder how to earn that much money, because you'll need it if you want to call like 5 Castles your own.
Besides: the losses of men in battle are often that high, that my prisoners and the loot merely cover the costs of hiring new mercenaries.

I always start off in northern Ireland, the moment you leave the town theres a few toews running around. Solo them and capture those you can. Sell them and their loot asap. you can usually get at least 100-150sc.

Then go back out and either hit more of them if you can or avoid bandits and go straight to the villages in Wales. Buy up Stone, Silver and Mineral. These usually go for about 100 each at begining but sellf for 400+. Buy as much as you can afford and go back to the towns in wales and sell them. They might only pay about 300 but thats a 200 profile to buy more. do this and move around wales till you can get up enough money to buy more. Keep 600 spare to use in a tournament on your way east.

Travel quick, avoid battle, in my early game there was next to no banditsin wales and middle map as armys were out and killing everything. If i saw a lord traveling in my direction i followed close behind as bandits run away.

Then get your butt to middle of map, sell everything at Licideth and your all set to return and repeat. You can grab a few quests to get you rep up but i generally spend 50-60 days trading and fighting.

On day 66 of my travels i had 5 companions,  had won 7 tournaments, have made 130k gold and i have 2 wine press. 600 Renown No cheats. The main thing to do is turn off the morale penalty as it is a nightmare while traveling.

on day 80 i noticed mierce was all but destoryed but for Licideth, so i joined them and luckily found a battle going on right outside where the king was heading. i followed him and gained another 50 renown for having only 5 companions. This happened for a bit and i am siting on 850 renown and i got elected marshal.

Took back a city and i was rewarded with it, Now i have 1500 coming in from wine press (made another in my new city) i have massive taxes coming in from fiefs 2000. As for army once i was done saving them i resigned marshalship, gave my men to the new marshal and retreated to a semi quiet lift of occasionally defending my city and trading
