Nahkuri, you once again seem to be arguing against a point I haven't made. I've never stated Morrowind's combat was flawless.

More like I'm just being unnecessary verbal about being baffled how anyone could think Morrowind's combat would be better than pretty much anything.

Please God no. Dark Souls' combat is already buggy and badly-controlled enough. I shutter to think what Bethesda would do to it.

Aside from the horrible latency oddities in PVP like phantom backstabs and what have you that are unfortunately very prevalent, I disagree about it being terribly buggy. I've some 400+ hours into it and I don't think it's that buggy. The worst that happens is that attacks sometimes go through walls, but I don't think there's any melee game that was completely free of that. You have a point about Bethesda knowing how to work that into it, though. I'd say the controls are solid when it comes to melee, but using ranged weapons without lock on is pretty bad if not outright ****.

Anyways, my point wasn't that they should try to impersonate it. More like take a few good looks from it. Mainly that it's deadly but fair and it rewards both character development and player skill.

In the short 10 hours I've put into Dark Souls, I've been killed through a wall at least 5 times, I've had countless attacks go through enemies and not damage them (I use a spear and suspect the length used to calculate attacks isn't the same as the model) and the targeting system is plainly broken. If it were less buggy and controlled less sluggishly it would essentially be The Witcher 2's combat.

What Bethesda needs is physically-accurate IK based first-person combat where attacks actually do noticeable damage.

I wouldn't mind being surprised, but I think it's easier some other developer add character customization and free roaming to a good game than Bethesda adding all the things a TES game needs to not suck ass.

My hopes are up with this next generation.

Requiem melee combat is really fun.

Ranged is dumb though, everything (you and enemies) dies in one hit, is there any way to tone this down?
Wear heavy armor. If you try to take on someone in requiem with a bow without armor piercing bow perks, you're going to have a real bad time. Besides, my heavy armor characters laugh at arrows shot at him. I once powered through a draughr dungeon to find about 15 ancient nordic arrows in my inventory. Multiply that by 3 and you have a realistic number on how many times I was shot. I used 2 faint potions iirc in that dungeon, both when facing draughr murderbosses.

That's one of the beauties of Requiem. It adds a much stronger sense of versatility in Skyrim that exists in the vanilla game. Although I suppose is theoretically possible to do a jack of all trades kinda character, going for a certain type of build is much more viable. I've done lightly armoured ranger sort of guy and a tank in heavy armour and they feel very different. Both are fun, thoug the first one was hard as **** with the brutal approach to archery the game has.

I solved my light armor problem with copious amount of pickpocket and sneak. I literally disarm enemies before fighting them. Also pickpocket is a decent way to level up your character as well. Only 5 perk point actually required to make the tree work, and you'll be getting much more than 5 levels out of it really quickly too.

As for archery, requiem seems to hint that noobs should use crossbows. Bows are pretty much specialist weapons that needs a lot of perks to be good.

I'm doing a ranger type character in requiem right now, have frostfall installed to so I only ever were fur armor. Its challenging but extremely rewarding. Of course when I have to go into crypts and do close-quarter I need help from a follower or its almost impossible

I think a pretty accurate with any comparison between Requiem and mod X is "Requiem is more brutal."

It's been a while since I played Deadly Combat so, apart from Requiem being harder, I can't make a detailed side by side comparison. But basically Requiem's combat comes down to this

* Skill level matters, perks matter even more. It's not true in every case, but a good rule of thumb is that you need perks to not suck at whatever you're trying to do. Perk tree's overhauled to make character specialization and planning a bigger thing than it was in native.

* Weapons kill you and they kill you quick. Fortunately, if you're any good at using them, you kill things pretty quick too.

* If bandit swords kill you quickly, arrows do it even faster. If you wear light armour and you see archers, you'd better start thinking tactics.

* Blocking and dodging are likely more essential than they've ever been in Skyrim.

* Armour matters, armour types actually differ a lot. Light armour is easy to use and doesn't offer hell of a lot protection, but it's certainly better than nothing and also leaves you light at your feet. Heavy armour turns you into a slow fat **** and if you don't have the proper perks invested, just wearing the thing drains your stamina. It also slows you down, making dodging reaaally hard for the first dozen levels of your adventures. But it offers MUCH more protection than light armour and at some point arrows barely tickle you any more. Also, you can bullrush enemies off their feet by sprinting into them in heavy armour. Feels good mang.

* Magic has also been revamped, but I haven't played a mage in Requiem yet so I can't say anything for sure, other than being a proper battlemage requires some commitment. Heavy armour gimps your magic skills so have fun blowing snowflakes and sparks at your enemies until you put a perk or two in the right place(s). Magic of enemies is pretty deadly, but fortunately most of the ****s are wearing robes. Remember what I said about light armour and bows? Yeah, robes don't even count as armour. Happy sniping!

Become one of them, use bows or take it up the bum until you're high enough level to handle damage, or can do shouting. Though Requiem's dragon's piss on Deadly Dragons so if you can do shouting, chances are you can take a magic icicle or two without dying.

I never really had any problems against the mages, using a bow. However I played with about 75% enemy damage so it wasn't quuuite as rapey as it normally is.

Sounds like it's about the only thing that would get me playing again. I think I hit my limit when I stopped playing last, even thinking of playing it now makes me bored and tired of it.

It really brought the game back to life to me. Early levels were sometimes so exciting I went back to my underleveled Dark Souls playthrough to relax. I just wanted to develop my character so I could give bloody payback to all those ****ing bandits and other twerps who were killing me with ease unless I somehow managed to engage them 1on1. I don't remember what my level was when I quit playing, but it was somewhere around 40-50 and bandits and other low level nasties are barely worth noticing at that point. Just casually strolling through a fort filled with them and horribly murdering them with one or two shots feels great because it actually makes you feel like you're progressing and developing your character.

You'll really want a backpack mod with it. Also anything allowing multiple followers is probably a bright idea from a survival perspective.

I think part of it is being so sick of doing the same dungeons for the 20th time. Yeah I know, there are lots to choose from, but a bunch of the ones I've seen so often are necessary to visit to get Daedric relics and shout words.
