Arvid's texture pack. v.3 - updated on august 09
« on: July 09, 2006, 12:37:56 AM »
This texture pack contain many hours of work and fine tuning. Download it and tell me what you think !

When downloaded, paste the texture folder into where you have mount and blade stored.
You might also want to make a backup of your old texture files.

You should put it up on the file repository.

I think it's Janus's page. At least everyone keeps thanking him for it, seems like a good reason to assume it's his.

I changed a lot, also the rivers. I just wanted to remove the ugly texture off it. Im going to add bumpmapping on rivers to make it look better.

Is there anyone so kind to tell me what a bump map accualy does? and maybe explain how to do it..

I know alot about textureing but I think this is the only thing I cant do , and I dont even know what it accualy does other then *making it look better*

I noticed a bump map is like the same texture but black and white , and always assumed it overlaps the other texture with some alpha channels..
I always guessed a bump map makes a texture look more 3d. but thats a guess..

Yeah the water does look like shat, especially on the world map. I wish it didn't move at all but was just kind of a brownish muddy thing that just sat there :p Having the water moving all the time looks odd, you hardly ever see water moving like that. And it shouldn't be transparent like it is, if only because it shows the bottom which SHOULD be full of river stones and sand etc, but is just blank. So the muddy look would be good. On the world map, I just wish it didn't move only because it all moves in the same direction ><

AND! Rivers/streams are far too common in the game. Nearly every single fight on an open plain, no matter what there's a river there. Gets annoying sometimes, especially when there's a 20 foot drop into it

Anyway. My lil rant on the water, pay no mind to me :D

Very good building textures, well done. :)

It reminds me the old Ottoman houses, Greek Buidlings etc. Maybe we can use it in our mods. Can we use these textures Arvid?(In the mods that we work)

Bump (IMHO) takes lighter parts of the texture and makes them "bumpy". As you said it creates an illusion that the model is much more complicated (as the texture is..) in a 3D way. But What I've seen from bump mapped textures in Holy War once...it appeared to me that those were just dirty. Don't know...bumpmapping works great in Cinema 4D for instance .)
Don't make me get all Merlkir on your ass.
