++color & contrast
« on: June 04, 2006, 08:00:15 PM »
The summer is here! (And from where I come, that means: much rain)

Anyway. I was sitting here, playing Mount & Blade and occasionally looked outside...
Perplexedly I looked back on the screen,... back outside,... back on the screen...:
...
Even though in M&B the sun was shining and the real weather outside was foggy and rainy, the colors in M&B were still weaker than outside.  :shock:

Normally, computer games tend to be more colorful than the real world (take "Elder Scrolls: Oblivion"... a fairyland), it seems as if M&B tends to be the opposite.
Since I guess the dark ages weren't called like that because it was so dark and gray all around, I began to edit textures in M&B to fit my impression of the real world... (got a very nice view here :-) )

I changed mostly only the contrast and saturation. On some textures, I did a bit more: Most wall textures look a bit more 3Dish now.
Here are some examples (before -> after): ... look outside! ;-)

Screenshots: dark night, some buildings, green grassland

How to install: Unzip the textures in your Mount&Blade directory and overwrite the original ones. If you don't like colors and want to uninstall them, just replace them again with the original ones from the installation.

Please only download if you are really interested in using them. (18 MB)

I'm rather interested in putting a lot of these in 1066.

It is indeed nice. Downloading now, and if you don't mind, I'll use them in the mod.

I'm Cobra Commander, and I approve this message!

I'd quite like those textures for Craftmod, if you don't mind them being openly available to other modders as a part of Craftmod.

Insubordinately,

anyways, Nice textures
I particulary like the walls look more 3D

(though I already used a stronger contrast on most of the things for fantasy mod.)

Thanks for all the positive feedback. Good to know that my work wasn't in vain :)
I'd be glad to hear some feedback about if there is something that I could improve. I mean, this is something like version 1, maybe you think this is all a bit too colorful or whatever(?)

@all: Yes of course you may use it. As I said, I'm glad that many ppl use it :) (My hope is that Armagan applies these for the original game so that all would use it)

@Highelfwarrior: nope, Hamburg

Completely agree about contrast. Usually upping it just a little bit makes things look a lot more vibrant. Looks nice. :D

Great job Newton. Did you try doing the same with the sky textures? I bet you could get them uploaded to the repository if you're concerned about traffic on your host. You can register on www.mbrepository.com

here are some shots Yoshi
