Severance [arena mod] v2.2

I've put together a new arena with some different ideas I had, and inspired by Blade of Darkness to some extent.

The arena times how long it took the player to win and reports the time at the end.
There are 8 distinct weapons, 3 armor sets for the enemies, 2 armor sets for the player.

Each weapon is extra good at something. Reach, speed, swing damage, thrust damage, knockdown.
Each enemy armor set has a weak spot compared to the rest of the armor. Head, body, legs.

The version I put up for download was not the same one I was testing, it was a lot harder. Very sorry about that guys.
New version 2.2 uploaded, with proper difficulty.


2.1 update
- Fixed bad enemy spawn point.
- Reduced speed of enemy bows.
- Adjusted some weapons stats.
- Increased xp bonuses

Version 2
- Added 8 more fighters to defeat, 14 total now.
- Added one more enemy type.
- Added 2 shields, 2 weapons, 1 armor, 1 helm, bow, crossbow.
- Added ramps from the bottom to the towers. Added several other ramps that require precise jumps.
- Added at least 2 routes one can take to move through the course, no longer linear.
- Added all the arena gear to the Zendar chest. Now you select what to take into the arena.
- Added 100 hp to shadown knights. Removed bows from them.
- Adjusted weapon and armor stats, enemy equipment.
- Added throwing swords.
- Fixed world map.
- Removed reticule.
- Recolored some weapons.

I just beat it with 134 ceconds...at lvl 1 and then I got to lvl 14 with all the xp i got

Wow.

Well, I beat it in 157 seconds, having failed an easy ten times or so.  I was level 10 or so when I went in, levelled up once during the fighting and (after the big XP bonus), came out at level 14.  I tried a Squire, and, having done the training, I quickly specialised in 1-handed & shield, backed by a load of Power Strike  :wink:

It's looking good.  Currently, I guess because you're testing, you level up once or twice after each attempt at the arena.  The course is difficult, but FUN!  The final guy had been knocked down to the ground, so I had to give chase, otherwise, I might have shaved 30 seconds or so off my time.

It's looking really interesting!

Nice one. It adds a new level to arena combat. Infact, Janus may like this sort of idea ("assault" course) for his next arena add on. In fact, my only comment is this: Why have you used the warrider soundpack rather than the newer, and better sounds? And could you add a little ramp leading up to the tower? I have fallen down there several times only to find that I have no way back up.

PS Those shadow knights are bliddy hard!

Glad you guys like it.

The Blade of Darkness-like elements are the large two-handed swords that I colored to look more like BoD swords, the fighting on ramps high above the ground, the jumping to advance further and the knights.

The difficulty here is a bit harder to get right, some people are a lot better than others at M&B melee (as we'll see by how fast and at what level you can beat it), so you'll level up even when you lose so that you can improve.

I will add a ramp to the top. But you just have to aim the jumps better :D Sometimes when AI falls off you have to go down and get him.

I used the warrider sounds because I wanted to create a bit of a different feel to fighting and these sounds are quite good. I actually some better than vanilla. Plus some of them are actually from Blade of Darkness. :D

I have a few ideas on how to expand it, and your ideas for additions and changes are welcome.

EDIT: My best time is 103 seconds at level 18, with the golden sword. The gear you get can influence the time too. With light armor you can run faster and save some time that way, but with heavy you are less likely to die. And the weapons are different enough to have an effect. I found it is easier with a spear, but takes a little longer than if you can get through with one of the swords. Aiming for different body parts of different enemies will also speed it up.

Ok, won again, 79 seconds this time, I had to chase down one of those dam fools that fell!


119 seconds with the spear, and 49 seconds with the axe. The easiest way to do it, it only take your shield out when the arrow starts flying towards you, so it doesnt way you down when your running, also, when you fight, put your shield away, so you get the two handed damage bonus from your weapon.

The elements are few, can't really add combos, chopping off heads and motion capture animations :D
 but I'll keep the name, Makus, it doesn't have to refer to BoD. And if I expand it, I'll look to BoD for guidance and it will have a few more elements.
Don't think of it as M&B version of BoD. Rather as a arena mod with some elements inspired by BoD.

Gah! 49 seconds isn't possible! What level were you Fenix?

lvl 28, and deffinatly not impossible! I just did a 50 with the two handed black sword, is there anyway you could stick all of the new items in the zendar chest? My unofficial editor doesnt work for this mod* Great job again Chel, your mods are fun, addicting, and unique, keep it up!

I wrote this one in python so not sure how Unofficial Editor would handle it.
I could certainly add the items to the chest, but the world map is screwed up for this mod (all towns isolated) so you can't fight anyone with the new gear ( I edited my native map by mistake and now I don't have vanilla map file, haha).
I should put it on top of vanilla map...if I can find one in one of the other mods.

I wanted to make the enemies have 200-300 hp by giving them lots of strength. But they got high bonuses to bow damage from strength and started slaughtering the player with arrows. The bow damage is 5 now, I should reduce it even more if I'll give them much strength.

Should I add some sword+shield enemies? I always found 2h vs 2h duels more interesting in M&B, but sword+shield is popular.

I personally like the 2h vs 2h, but some people, as you said before, aren't as experianced with 2h weapons, or are just perfer 1h more. Maybe add 1 or 2 1h with shield knights at the end, with the 2 blue ones, so its you vs 4 shadow knights! That would be fun  :D . I found that the hardest guys to kill are the ones with the polearms, its the huge blade on a stick, in China its called a Kwan Dao, not sure what you calell it in the game though, or what its caleld elsewhere*
