Which scene is responsible for battle terrain?
« on: May 09, 2006, 05:05:23 am »
In the Unofficial Editor, under Scenes menu, which scene contains the parameters for terrain generated for battles? Is it the scn_random_scene? I was trying to raise the water level to make it generate a marsh with only small patches of land above water level, would that be possible?

And another question, is it possible, and if yes, how can I increase the number of combatants in the Zendar Arena using the unofficial editor?

Thanks in advance!

You'd better change the mesh then. I believe it always gets totally randomized, because the water level is always the same, but the  map height varies.

Yes, with a bit of funky work in the dialogs.
Or, you could download the Arena Expansion mod which does that, among other things. 8v8 or 6v6v6v6 enough for you?

15v15 isn't possible with the current scenes and mission templates, 8v8 is as high as it can go in the standard arena. If you knew how to and wanted to set up the scene in edit mode ingame and set up the mission template correctly, you could get that working though.

There's no reason you couldn't copy my Arena Expansion mod or use it as a base in the UE (people have done it plenty in the past), but I won't assist you in doing so.

... why would you add that Janus? I didn't ask anyone to do it for me and I wasn't about to ask you to assist me with adding it either. Are you upset with me about something?

Thanks for the advice anyway.

Upset with you? Huh? No, did it sound that way?
I don't use the UE and therefore don't know how it would be done so I'm not going to help you there, but I know it has been done before. I thought that might be helpful to know.... *shrug*

The scene is scn_random_scene.

Terrain mesh and water level are fixed, however you can place props like buildings and such. The tricky thing is, the ground level changes so it's very hard to place the objects correctly.

Wrong. It CAN be done. I have made different, standardized battle maps for my Civil War mod, including one that was swampy. Using the UE, change the "Water Level" for scn_random_scene to a positive value, type "none" into the box for mesh and the box for texture, uncheck all check boxes except "generate terrain" and "auto entry points", and then start Mount & Blade in edit mode. Click the terrain button on the game's taskbar, and set the sliders to no hills, a few valleys, however much vegetation you want, and a good bit of ruggedness. Then generate the terrain, and copy and paste the terrain code from Mount & Blade into the "Terrain Code" box in the UE. Then after saving your work with the UE, restrt the game, and you should have a swampy battle map. It worked for me. Make the water level higher until you get satisfactory "islands".

There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed his desire to become a great writer. When asked to define "great" he said,

"I want to write things that the whole world will read, things that people will react to on a truly emotional level, things that will make them scream, cry, howl in pain and anger!"

He now works for Microsoft, writing error messages.

Yes, but I think it is always nice to post these things anyway, just so that anyone who comes across it while searching doesn't get the wrong idea.  As long as you don't necro irrelevant things from years ago :)
