    Presentation

Dark Ages in British Isles are fascinating, a dismal warlike time, in which people fight for survive. A dark age with deep blend of cultures.
6th and 7th centuries were a time when invaders (Saxons, Angles and Jutes) tried hard their destiny in a new world with the steel of their swords, shields and spears. Ancient people tried to resist, while they saw how their kingdoms are defeated and conquest by those “barbarians”, sorrowfully saw how his belowed world slowly disappeared off the face of the earth.

Couldn't forget to talk about the Picts also, who have always inspire great interest. Or about West, other island, as complex as Britain, Ireland in which many people were fighting for a piece land, their clans, livestock and supremacy.

In short, it is a world we know a little, but that it is like a magnet for history lovers: a time of war and great deeds, where few (almost none) kings died in his bed.

    thump_4660742partida2.jpg

    ¿What mean Brytenwalda?

The central element in early Anglo-Saxon politics is the 'imperium' (empire) over all 'English' peoples south of the Humber which Bede ascribes in his Ecclesiastical History (ii 5) to seven kings before 671. To these seven, the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle of Alfred's time attaches not only an eighth name but also a vernacular word, 'Bretwalda', or 'Brytenwalda'

Brytenwalda = Bryten - Britain and walda - ruler.
Brytenwalda, almost certainly the right form. 'Bretwalda' may be a 'ghost' word, born of a scribal slip.

A little of History: Anno Domini 636:

Edwin, King of Deira, has died some years ago, his great rival, Cadwallon ap Cadfan, king of Gwynedd, after ravaging the north with his armies, was killed by Oswald the new lord of the north, the ambitious son of Æthelfrith and Edwin's sister, he now rules on Bernacia, Deira and Elmet.

Oswald the powerful, who has proclaimed Brytenwalda, who is willing to dispute the title?, Who is willing to confront the most powerful king in Britain?

The world is at war, only respects the law of the sword and spear. There are realms that are born and die every single day, kings die on the battle fields.

On East, the Angles, Jutes consolidate domains and claim for more land.
On South, the Saxons, led by Cynegils, have teamed up with Oswald, cornering Penda, king of the Angles de Mierce, The March. Will Mierce resist being surrounded by enemies?
King Penda is bloody and violent, many kings have been killed by his sword and promises to kill many more. He call to meet the men under his command to go to war.

Meanwhile, Christianity extending from Centware (Jute Kingdom), and it is converting the barbarians.

Pushed against the coast, the Welsh are fighting for every inch of land, but are too divided, dreaming of the return of a king to unify all and lead to the final victory, they dream with an incoming King Arthur. But Arthur is dead, and all eyes look to Cynddylan, the king of Pengwern, brave as a lion, but unable to join under his banner all the other kings.

And Gwynedd, a fertile kingdom in great warriors, is silent, unable to hear the sound of the advancing armies threatening their land. Gwynedd cry to Great Cadwallon, scourge of the Angles and Saxons, who has left a son, a King 3 year old.

In the snowy lands of the North, fight the Irish, Dal Riata, and the Picts. Their kings share blood, but the Irish are invading in land of Cait, kingdom of the Picts. The Picts, with their faces painted and their female warriors, are now united under one king and they are stronger than ever.

Across the sea, in Ireland, Domnaill mac Aedo, of Ui Neill´s clan has emerged as High King in Temair after defeating his enemies. But it isnt more than a prestigious title that recognizes him as the most powerful of the island. Around him, clans are fighting for land, women and cattle in fratricidal wars. The war in Ireland is endemic.

Who can bring light to this world of war and misery?

The world was chaos, and chaos was war.

Umm Hermodr, are you sure you can reserve a place in someone elces mod thread?

Good luck i guess

I meant, I see items from Song of Taliesin in it. I definitely recognize them. So I was just wondering if the creator had permission from Kolba.

Thanks to Kolba, Dudro, Motomataru, Lumos and others. I writte credits when mod is download.

Kolba had help much me.

Brytenwalda is different of Kolba´s mod. We had speak about it.
Kolba´s mod is about north in VI century, and Brytenwalda is all (britain and Ireland) in VII century.
Diferent world and characters, and different Features.

There are a mod about Arthur also, and other about viking. I was seeing it very much, i dont like to fall into the saturation.
When i begin it, won VII century history in Britain because i was reading the Heledd Canu, Y Gododin, Beowulf etc ... in this time.

Actually, the bulk of the work is done, and (with the same century) I can change it to other parts of west Europe (in fact, an intention I had at first was to recreate the world of Spain in the sixth and seventh centuries). If I see there is not much acceptance, or that the mod is not attractive for being so touched Britain in other mod, or not interested ... I will  complete the Mount & Blade´s mod "Brytenwalda" for me, and when I will go to Warband porte, base it (as I said) in Hispania (Spain) in the sixth and seventh centuries for me and those who want it.

Yes, Idibil has permission from me for making this Song of Taliesin spin-off.

Most of stuff you have shown here looks good, however I would avoid having bags for javelins and dark red clothes for low or mid-tier troops.

-I have use near of 60 or 70 objects of Song of Taliesin´s mod in Brytenwalda.
-I have use 3 icons of Songs of Taliesin´s mod
-I want, if Kolba let, use any scenes also, but it dont put yet

@kolba
thx u, m8

red clothes? have u talk about 3 photo? He is king´s guard. However, i put have some error in items of units, it need most time.
I dont know if understand well to u. Javelin is basic projectile weapon, easy do, it was using for famers also.

Kolba, we talk for pm, i fear confusion and it could be need i change atmosphere of my mod, and if i put it to warband make it right from the start. Look pm, plz

BRYTENWALDA
Presentation: Historical system battle

The new fight system of BRYTENWALDA is the result of a deep study to reach the maximum offered by the M&B engine.:hmmm:

image-DF38_4BE1929C.jpg

The starting idea was to make the AI an enemy difficult to defeat, and also to make the battles more complex and funnier, not for arcade players but for strategy lovers. We have tried to accomplish these requirements by studying manuals of battles and strategies of the historical period, as well as the different classical sources that make reference to this points. Also we added the "experimental archaelogy" of clanmates and recreation world in the exercise of throwing javelins or using slings. No animal suffered and no public good was damaged during those tests.

The realism was intended to be the way and the transport, trying to approach us, in the limitations of the engine, to the historical situations of the generals and Lords of War in that period.

Nevertheless, Brytenwalda is based on a time as the seventh century and in a place such as the British Isles, which is well adapted to the system of game Mount & Blade (it's impossible to represent faithfully a battle of ancient times with forces of more than fifteen thousand men on each side) We are talking of meetings of several hundred, and sometimes, rare, a few thousand.
We talked about a fight, direct, bloody and tactical.

Features:

In principle the movement of our army will vary much more depending on the terrain, and also depending on the units. A heavy infantry should be very slow, but the light infantry should move quickly and easily.

Each unit has been worked in different aspects. Heavy infantry will behave as heavy infantry, with good defense, but slower in atack and manoeuvring. The same for the rest of units.
The heavy infantry in history has generally been used as an element of shock, with limited tactics. I speak of the heavy infantry especially because at this time it was core of the armies.
His way forward was to advance, throwing javelins or darts, form a shieldwall and charge. Could have a defensive character (hold the enemy while the cavalry, light infantry or other heavy infantry won the flanks of the enemy), or offensive, to fall upon the enemy, collide and bleed. Battles were won for moral, not for causalities, never forget that.

And men were not fighting for hours. A man can fight the maximum pressure a time of 10-15 m, before being exhausted. So there was a relay system for example.

Several parameters have been taken into account, as the lethality and reaction time of each weapon, and they are now different. A knife can be terribly rapid, but not very dangereous, mainly depending on the armour of the enemy unit. It cannot be the same thing trying to trespass a mailchain or gutting an almost nude slinger. Each weapon will give advantages and disadvantages. A heavy sword will give a certain advantage in charge, but is less efficient in close melée fighting. A short sword, on the contrary, is not the best weapon to charge with, but is very lethal in close combat.

Each armour and shield has been also treated with specific stats.

Projectile is another point drastically transformed from Brytenwalda. These units are no more machine guns, but the casualties will depend more on the position related to the objective and we have tried to adjust casualties to the data obtained from ancient-medieval battles. They are a good tactical element if used properly, as they can reduce the moral of the enemy, making charges more efficient.

Moral. There are no units without fear, fighting to death. This is very epic but no real at all. In Brytenwalda the soldiers will be hence impredictable. They can fight as lions or, more probably, to rout quickly in a difficult moment. The use of this kind of troops in battle makes necessary a strong organization of our troops.
One of the effects obtained in this way is the possibility of winning the battle in a zone of the battlefield, whereas the other side of your army breaks because you was not able to close lines in due time.
If you want to bring veterans to battle, you will have to invest money (they are expensives), and it is your choice, either less amount of high quality troops or more units full of noob soldiers.

In any case our goal is that the battle will be won by the best general, that knows how to take advantage of his troops, their moral and the terrain in the best way, not by the general with the most powerful army (superhuman units have disappeared ).

We think that the AI is notably improved with those changes, being a harder enemy. However, more tests are needed in this aspect.

Finally another positive point is that we will have the chance of having success with any kind of tactics.

All these improvements, soon in your PC.
