Heroes of Might and Magic Mod

now i know people hate it when there are suggestions made and the suggester can't mod, but i think a heroes of might and magic 3 mod would be cool. if anyone's played heroes 3, they will understand what i mean when i say that it would really work well in m&b. if the correct creatures come out of each different faction's town, and make every town capturable, it would be just like heroes. the only problem is the special troop types, like dwarves, gryphons, dragons, etc. if the mod was loosely based on the heroes 3 game, we could fudge it a little. if anyone's interested that's great. if no one knows what the hell i'm talkin about, that's fune too. it's just a great idea (in my opinion) and it works quite well with mount&blade. give me your reactions.

How the hell would you make a heroes mod? It could never be any where as good as heroes 3. Also there is heroes 5 soon... Which I hope they improved a lot till I tested the beta btw. It was really a shame what the game was like back then. At least they took some additional time to make the game better...

Lu Bu...your nay-saying is growing rather tiresome.  In fact, I'd be willing to go as far as saying that you are a total ass who shouldn't post if you have nothing constructive to say.  Thank you.  The reason that this game would be better and different from Heroes 3 is the actual game play.  Why make any modules based around existing games of a different platform?  Because we prefer playing M&B...and if you like M&B as well as the game you wish to mod...well...the best of both worlds isn't it?

I like the idea and can see how it would fit rather well.  The key difference, I think, would be the importance of owning towns and being able to hire new units from said towns by investing money into them.  With the T-rex mod we know that it's possible to make an effective giant "dragon like" mount.  However, I doubt anything will get done regarding this project.  As it will be nigh impossible to get somebody who can mod who isn't already busy at the moment and who is infatuated with the idea of a Heroes 3 mod.  Good luck though.

I heard the H5 beta was so bad you couldn't play for more than one or two turns without the whole thing locking up... At least the demo works pretty good.

Anyway, about the suggestion. The thought had ocoured(sp?) to me, but like you said, the special troops make it nearly impossible to make a purely H3 mod. However, it might be possible if you mix and match the various sides, coming up with the knight faction from H2 (all human), the barbarian faction with units from H2 and H3 (taking only orcs and goblin units. And cyclopses or ogres if you could manage it.), and possibly the necromantic side if you can make the skeletons look skeletal, the zombies look zombified and the mummies look... mumish?


Edit: Look, if anyone seriously wants to make this mod, I don't mind compiling a list of different units from the games, with the feasability for each.

as far as the games are concerned, heroes 3 is the only one i really liked. 4 destroyed the planet and transported the survivors to another worlds, and that bascally sucked to me, because i liked the world of heroes 3. that's why i said three and not four or five. i was just throwing out the idea so that if someone is a fan of both games, they could try to make it. i realize that it would be a huge project, and since i'm not going to make the mod, we might as well just forget i said anything. the things that make sense are that it's possible to make humanoid creatures, and to make creatures using the horse skeleton. also, the game is made up of groups of soldiers and towns, with many different types of creature. the problem is that in heroes, there are too many types of monsters/soldiers, and there would be a ton of complex modeling and texturing. so if someone absolutely wants to make this mod, i was throwing the idea out there. even if a complete mod wasn't made, it would be great to create some of the artifacts, creatures, and heroes from the heroes of might and magic series.

If I want Heroes I play Heroes. And if I want M&B I play one of its mods. :P

I dont see how M&B would be able to get the good things of heroes. You just have to read its title... Heroes of might and MAGIC. There is a major thing already lost. Just a mod with other images which are in someway related to heroes, I dont need... not that I would in any way try to stop someone from doing so. Probably there would be still enough people who enjoy it.  :roll:

Just out of curiosity Pellidon, have you ever played Legends of Might & Magic?
If you haven't, just think cheep Counter Strike rip-off meets Heroes of Might and Magic.

Anyway, if anyone wants to make this mod, I may not know anything about modding in itself, but I have Heroes 2, 3 and 4 with all the expansion packs, so if you need any research done, I'm your man.

i totally understand that lu bu. a lot of mod ideas sink because they're too impractical, and i now realize that about this idea, i just had a sudden idea that would be great if someone had unlimited time to make it, but it would be too hard in the current circumstances, because no one has the time, or desire to do that. i think if someone made a fantastical mod influenced by heroes, it could be great, but a straight up heroes mod would take too much time to make.

Heroes of Might and Magic was a good series. Mhmm.. but i think there are too many fantastical elements.

Men, I'm not really good at modding... I' really not good at modding... And all =)
I mean I installed modders' tools just yesterday, but I will study and use them for sure.
And the first idea of mod is HEROES 3 for me... I noticed that M&B has a lot of similar things with heroes. Parties with hero, horse traveling on the World Map, towns... For sure we can make something very similar.
And this is my purpose for now.
Yesterday I began to make units for Erathian empire (griffin as a sign, you remember).
I retextured heraldic armor, so now it's with griffin on its back and breast, and has custom color set, like in Heroes (top-left half is blue, another is white, down-righthalf is blue, another is white), and changed a bit color of kettle hat, so now crossbowman in this armor looks just like in heroes 3.
Now I finished retexturing linen tunic, so ow it is dirty and has imroidered grffin on it. Just for erathian peasant =).

So any way I will continue my work, but if there're heroes-fans who want to be with me in this long journey, I would be happy.
Now I'm at work and cannot post my screenshots, but I will show you my first draft of erathian troops progression. I don't think that it would be interesting to have just 2 levels of each unit level, so it would be better to bind them together in level-up tree.



Also don't say "it's too fantastic". We've already seen skeletons, zombies, orcs, trolls and even wookie from star wars, so why troglodites, minotaurs, elves, imps and more can't be there ?

Music from heroes also will add some atmosphere.

Well, in general we will have heroes of might NOT magic. But if you can remember, there's such scenario where you should find a special vial where all magic is contained by powerful wizard (there can be a storyline for our mod too).

Also we can make liches and mages by giving them special staves without animation (they held it vertically always) which are considered like firearms, and we can bind particle system to them to show "magic casting" effect.

I have a lot of ideas, and you, I think, too.
I haven't an expirience for now, as many of you... (but EXP is something that we get just everyday, isn't it?  :lol:)

Now what we need is a plan.
Algorythm.
Step-by-step.
In this case we CAN do Heroes mod, and it would be great.

EDIT: If any of Master Modders can help me, I'll take your advices and help with a great heartfelt gratitude. Maybe there is a Heroes fan among you?

Yeah, i like this, and if your willing to go for it, why not :)

Also, by the way, at the time of the origional posting in this thread, things like skeltons ect. were impossible to mod, but since then there have been a fair few modding changes (for the better)

it'll be hard (mainly beause of all those new units) and the hitboxes will pose a problem, but if you need any help I can give you, just ask ;)

Ok, roger that =).

I don't want to be unsubstantiated, so I'll post some screenshots this night (I have GMT +3 so don't know what time you will have :wink:) and complete erathian units I mentioned above. Then I'll get more expirience and will get into the way, and there'll be a real possibility to plan the work.

You understand that these "heroes" will not be like 3DO's.

I mean no dragons, magic and all, but I think there will also be good possibilities to create heroes-fan mod.

For example, as I see it for now:

1) Erathia.
Erathian units are listed above, and all of that stuff is real just for me just now.
I will learn few things and I will ask good modders then for:
   Adding "invisible" pistol to zealots with special particle system that imitates "spellcasting", so it'll look like they stretch the hand and cast a magic blast.

2) Other factions
Now I have
  a) full .3ds minotaur model from neverwinter nights with textures, so some practice and there'll be functional minotaur armor for minotaurs by themselves (from dungeon). If someone can do this faster than me it would be cool (cause I'll do it slowly, I know).
  b) I am not able to make good skeleton meshes for now, but I hope someone will help me, for example there are such beautiful ones in Cartread's "Hero and blade" (if he allows me) or at last I can learn to do such things earlier or later by myself.
  c) Liches can be made from skeleton by adding armor meshes to them.
  d) Magic staves for liches (necropolis) and mages can be made from usual staves. I only should disable animation and make them firearms with special particle system.

lich                                 <- this one, using modified skeleton meshes, as a mage from Academy too, needs a "magic" staff without
                                             attacking animation, which should act like  firearms and have special "casting" particle system

Well, I have a lot of ideas, and not only about troops, items and town management (oops, I said it? Forget it! I only think it would be great to build your castle like in dionisia mod. But I don't know how many time should pass fo me to learn all the stuff for it).
So these ideas are still ideas. And there's only me who does something.

By the way, it's too early. I will not start adding new units for other fractions until I complete erathian units.
