There are some qualities–some incorporate things,
That have a double life, which thus is made
A type of that twin entity which springs
From matter and light, evinced in solid and shade.
There is a two-fold Silence–sea and shore-
Body and soul. One dwells in lonely places,
Newly with grass o'ergrown; some solemn graces,
Some human memories and tearful lore,
Render him terrorless: his name's "No More."
He is the corporate Silence: dread him not!
No power hath he of evil in himself;
But should some urgent fate (untimely lot!)
Bring thee to meet his shadow (nameless elf,
That haunteth the lone regions where hath trod
No foot of man,) commend thyself to God!
- Edgar Allan Poe, "Silence"

# VERSION 27.13 INTRODUCTION #

Well you have all certainly waited long enough for the two new character creation choices, Bleak Future and Homesteader, so here is what I have of them so far.

Bleak Future is mostly finished, with the Black Baron's (extensive) alternate-timeline claimant story (which you can start on right from the beginning of the game) being complete. Eventually there will be an additional storyline

Homesteader mostly just has your randomly-place homestead, Hiraeth, and your family members... and good Ol' Redder. It does feature an extra storage container for now, and your character will not be able to be pickpocketed, as you keep your money on the farm as well. This will be a blessing and a curse, once I add more.

I also fixed the inability to recruit Poe, which I broke last update, and I updated the Strategy Guide to contain current information. Everything listed as (WIP) has not been fully implemented yet. That being said, happy hunting, mod minions, and please enjoy your Bread and Crocuses.

# KNOWN BUGS AND ISSUES #

SOME OF OAK, ASH, OR THORN'S EQUIPPED WEAPONS OR SHIELDS MIGHT DISAPPEAR WHEN THEY ARE BURNED, BOILED OR PRESERVED!!! - Probably when they have Elixir Adamas used on them too! Be sure to un-equip these items before putting them through the process!

# PREFACE #

There is a lack in truly horrific mods out there, it seems. I think it's time we had a change of pace. Necromancy is the key. I have some practical knowledge of the occult, and therefore intend to make this mod as "realistic" as possible, without sacrificing playability or a certain amount of dark fantasy.

Solid and Shade is NOT a historic mod. It combines elements of occult folklore, Greek mythology, and many of the greatest works of Edgar Allan Poe. It has a decidedly pagan slant to it - various Gods and Demigods actually exist and play their particular parts in the story. Ghosts, shadow-creatures, and the undead stalk the land, among other even more sinister beings. Death lurks around every corner. For in this mod you can surely die, and in this mod you can surely live - and in this mod, there is a third choice. Make your choices carefully, and beware whom you speak to. Evil abounds...

*SolidAndShade folder - place this in your Mount&Blade/Modules folder. It is the mod itself.
*Changelog.txt file - lists changes from native.
*StrategyGuide.txt file - so you can spoil yourself.
*VisualSolidAndShade.png - an abstract table of the mods many races, and the dimensions they come from.

# CHANGELOG #

* Fix Version 27.13 Bread and Crocuses*
*~ Fixed: Could not recruit Poe.
*~ "What made you make this decision was... You were born in a bleak future. (???-2,???+2,???+2)" added to character creation.
~ Changes the starting date to 100 years later, in 1413.
~ Usherwood is gone.
~ (WIP) Old Four Ways Inn becomes Barter Town, a neutral safehaven.
~ Raises the Necropolis automatically, and gives Evil faction ownership of all Towns, Castles, and Villages.
~ Typhon, Father of all Monsters has Poseidon's Trident.
~ Echidna, Mother of all Monsters has Monster's Eviscerator.
~ All reinforcements for the Evil faction have been set to Iron Soldiers - Iron Golems with Artificer's Blunderbuss and Bearings, and a random chance of an Artificer's Mancatcher as a mount.
~ The Black Baron is available at Barter Town. If you begin his claimant quests he will offer to help you find the missing Garments of Invisibility, and Hematite, the Sword of Hades.
~ Galatea is gone, and Maxwell's Silver Hammer and the Magic Carpet are in the possession of a likely character...
~ Hades is on the map, near Veidar. He is looking for his sword, Hematite, and will join your party, filling your ranks with Gold Golems, to aid him in finding it.
~ The Kraken is on the map, near Fearichen.
~ Two new companions - Shiner and Smitty - available at Barter Town. They each cost 10000 Denars to recruit, and they do not like each other. Shiner crafts alcohol. Smitty crafts ammunition.
~ The Infinity Stone is missing. Someone must know where it is...
*~ "What made you make this decision was... You were providing for your family homestead. (???-1,???-1,???+2,???+2)" added to character creation.
~ Has a permanent home on the map, called "Hiraeth", near a random village.
~ All of your Denars are kept in this location, and so you cannot be pickpocketed unless Hiraeth is destroyed.
~ Changes the starting location to Hiraeth.
~ Has seven other family members, including a Husband/Wife, Mother-in-Law, and four randomly chosen Son and Daughter troops. And Ol' Redder.
~ These troops can be garrisoned at the Homestead, but are lightly armed and armored, and must be protected during combat if you take them with you.
~ (WIP) Natural and other hazards will plague Hiraeth from time to time, and you will have to return quickly to try to save it from being destroyed, and even your family from being killed.
~ (WIP) Losing family members will result in stat losses.
~ (WIP) Losing Hiraeth will result in a loss of all Denars, and force you to keep your remaining family members with you.
*~ Troubadour characters who are Homesteader characters can play the track Hiraeth if Ol' Redder is in the party, via the period key.
*~ Two new Troubadour tracks added, via the period key, if you have Shiner or Smitty recruited.
*~ Added Revolver as a weapon.

So gueesing there will be some sort of magic system ? In any case, Im hyped for some horror..

Sounds like you know how you're going to set this off, I'll keep an eye on it.

I do like that you'll be keeping the option to fight against the necromancers as well.

not like The Jonas Brothers horrific, but like ambient haunted house horrific

ROFL

Looking forward to see the features and screenies as this progresses. I personally love playing the evil and if possible necromancer character in all games (Oblivion, Diablo, etc) Thats always my go to character whenever i start a new game. Cant wait

Heh.
Anyway this would be really, really cool if you managed it. Wish you well!

Necromancers tend to not feel a brotherly connection and are quite competitive.

If you're a lich, you deserve it to be permanent if you manage to die.

Although, the addition of a phylactery to the game would be cool.

I will second that necromantic ways to avoid permadeath would be excellent - also gives a very good starting goal.

If there are options to become undead (ideally multiple options), that would be excellent. Depending on your renown, dying might even be a way of becoming a vassal (other necromancer lords might resurrect the slain general of some talent).
